CRTC unveils new media ownership regulations; affects no one?

According to, new CRTC regulations will limit cross-media ownership in local markets to two forms of media. So, you can have a TV station and a radio station, but not a newspaper as well. And rags like the Globe and Mail and the National Post are considered “national” so they’re exempt.

I firmly believe (and will argue with any PR practitioner who wishes to) that a strong, independent media is good for corporate communications. Competition brings competency which brings credibility and that’s the ultimate aim of PR – credible messaging.
