Prepared to comment?

A leaked document has outlined Waterloo-based Research in Motion’s plans to release a new smart phone that adopts “iPhone’s sleek black and steel motif,” according to the Toronto Star. The leaked document came from British-based Vodafone.

RIM refused to comment, citing a company policy. Was this the right move? In this day and age it seems as though it’s almost impossible to keep anything secret, especially in the hotly followed gadget market. I imagine that RIM wanted to control the release of information surrounding their newest phone but once the cat is out of the bag, shouldn’t they at least comment in an attempt to take the reigns? Or maybe a badly kept secret (like the iPhone had been for a year prior to its release) helps the marketing buzz? I’m just not sure.
